BJP Leader's Aide Shot Dead in West Bengal, Party Demands CBI Probe

Chandranath Rath, personal assistant to West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, was shot dead in Madhyamgram in North 24 Parganas district two days after the state assembly elections. He was struck by three of four bullets fired as his car slowed, police sources said.
Another man, Buddhadeb, who was traveling with Rath, sustained injuries and was taken to hospital. The assailants reportedly tailed the vehicle before opening fire; investigations into the motive and identities of the attackers are ongoing. Suvendu Adhikari was not present at the time of the attack.
Dibyendu Adhikari, the BJP leader's brother, confirmed the incident and demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, citing concerns over political violence in the state. Law enforcement agencies have launched a manhunt for the suspects. The West Bengal government has yet to issue an official statement.
The court will resume hearing on Tuesday, and police are expected to file a preliminary charge sheet within the week.
