Maharashtra Health Department Probes Alleged Medical Negligence in Beed District

A case of alleged medical negligence has come to light in Maharashtra's Beed district, where a pregnant woman from Parli taluka reportedly carried a dead fetus in her womb for 22 hours after visiting a hospital on April 23. The incident occurred after the woman complained of uneasiness and pain, and the family has alleged that the doctor, Kalpana Gite, attempted to hide the negligence and gain financial benefits.
The family has written a complaint letter to the Beed district collector, Parli police station, Sub-district hospital, and district health officer, citing the doctor's 'inexcusable negligence and carelessness' that put the mother's life in danger.
According to Sambhaji Munde, the brother-in-law of the survivor, the doctor asked the woman to get a sonography from a nearby diagnostic centre despite having an in-house facility, and it took 22 hours to perform a cesarean section after the fetus was declared dead.
The health department has formed a four-member committee to investigate the matter, and the District Health Officer, Satish Salunke, has stated that the committee has been instructed to present the results as soon as possible. The doctor, Kalpana Gite, has dismissed the allegations, claiming that she followed proper procedures and that the relatives initially did not give consent for a C-section.
