Mysuru district police have arrested five individuals in connection with the theft of approximately 5 kilometers of ACSR power cables worth ₹2.7 lakh from residential layouts near Beerihundi village on the city's outskirts. The arrests followed a complaint filed on May 4, 2026, by Vrushabendraswamy, a resident of Shettinayakanahalli village, with the Jayapura police station.
Police intercepted a goods vehicle near Harohalli Gate on May 8, 2026, coming from Saragur, and discovered four bundles of stolen ACSR wires weighing 281 kilograms. Chikkannachari, 58, of Saragur Town, was found transporting the wires; four others—Chandra, 48, Arif, 38, Shivanna, 44, and Ravi, 32, all from Ammathi in Kodagu's Virajpet taluk—were also detained.
Authorities seized the wires, the vehicle, and ₹2.47 lakh in cash. A case has been registered under Section 303(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act and Section 137(2) of the Karnataka Electricity Act. The accused were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
The police stated the arrests solved two cable theft cases—one registered at Jayapura and another at Varuna Police Station. Mysuru Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi commended the investigating team for their role in the operation. The court will resume hearing the case in due course.
