Arab Cinema Dominates Cannes 2026 Lineup

The 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, running from May 12 to May 23, has unveiled a lineup that showcases the growing influence of Arab cinema. Films from Morocco, Palestine, Egypt, and Iran are featured in key festival sections, including Competition and Un Certain Regard.

The festival's focus on international auteur-driven cinema has created opportunities for regional filmmakers to break down barriers and gain global recognition.

Iranian director Asghar Farhadi's new film Parallel Tales is among the most anticipated competition entries, while Moroccan filmmaker Laïla Marrakchi and Palestinian filmmaker Rakan Mayasi have also secured selections in the Un Certain Regard section.

The Arab Cinema Center at Cannes is expanding its presence with a four-day program, featuring panels and discussions on leadership, innovation, and cross-border partnerships. The Egyptian Pavilion at the Marché du Film is also returning, supported by the Cairo International Film Festival and El Gouna Film Festival.

The festival will conclude on May 23, with the awards ceremony announcing the winners of the Palme d'Or and other prestigious awards.
