Israeli airstrikes killed at least three Palestinians in Gaza on May 10, 2026, including Wessam Abdel-Hadi, head of the Hamas-run criminal police force in Khan Younis, and his aide, according to Gaza's Interior Ministry and medics. Another strike killed one person in the Maghazi refugee camp, health officials said, underscoring the fragility of the U.S.-brokered ceasefire.
The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the strikes. Reuters has previously reported that Israel has targeted Hamas security forces, which it views as integral to the militant group's governance and military infrastructure in Gaza. Israel has conducted near-daily operations in the territory since the October 2025 ceasefire took effect.
Since the ceasefire began, at least 850 Palestinians have been killed, according to local medics, while Israel says militants have killed four of its soldiers. Both sides accuse each other of violating the truce terms. Gaza health authorities report more than 72,500 Palestinians killed since the war began in October 2023, the majority civilians.
The U.S. continues to mediate between the parties, though no immediate diplomatic response followed the latest violence. The ceasefire remains technically in place, but the situation remains volatile, with both sides maintaining military readiness.
