India’s embassy in Rome issued an advisory on Monday, telling Indians in Italy to stay away from crowds amid protests that erupted across Milan, Turin and Bologna last week. In Milan, stones were hurled at police and at least three officers were injured; Turin saw people wielding cobblestones and hammers, while Bologna’s railway station was temporarily shut for safety.
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni posted on X that law‑enforcement had faced violence from organized groups exploiting demonstrations. She praised officers for safeguarding citizens and urged opposition parties to condemn acts of violence, saying that “demonstrating is a right, setting our cities ablaze is not.”
Italian police confirmed that at least three officers sustained injuries during the Milan incident, and officials said security teams remain on high alert as further demonstrations could arise over the coming days.
The embassy will keep monitoring the situation and will issue further advisories if needed; Indian nationals are urged to follow local news and avoid protest sites until the unrest subsides.
