Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) announced its support for Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay to form the government in Tamil Nadu on Saturday, ending days of political uncertainty. Party president Thol. Thirumavalavan stated the decision was made to ensure government formation and prevent the imposition of President’s Rule, emphasizing that VCK would not act as an obstacle in the process.
Thirumavalavan confirmed he had informed DMK chief MK Stalin, an ally and political rival of Vijay, before announcing the support. Stalin responded by saying, 'If you have decided to take this stand, my wishes for your decision,' according to Thirumavalavan. The VCK chief added that there were no conditions attached and that Vijay need not visit him before the swearing-in, with a meeting planned afterward.
The decision followed joint discussions with Left parties, which had earlier resolved to back TVK. The CPI(M) and CPI conveyed their decisions through formal letters shared during a VCK online consultation. A high-level committee then authorized Thirumavalavan to make the final announcement.
Earlier, VCK had expressed dissatisfaction over TVK's approach, criticizing the use of WhatsApp messages to seek political support. The party called such informal communication inappropriate during a constitutional process, urging Vijay to hold direct consultations with leaders.
The VCK has directed its cadres to disperse following the formal announcement, and the party expects the government formation process to proceed without delay. The swearing-in ceremony is expected shortly, with coalition stability now appearing assured.
