Six Missing After Boat Submerges in Yamuna River in Uttar Pradesh

Six people, including five children and one woman, went missing after a boat submerged in the Yamuna River in Hamirpur district, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday. Three of the nine people on board were rescued, District Magistrate Abhishek Goyal confirmed. The vessel was returning from a routine trip when it sank near Ghatampur.
Rescue teams, including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local flood relief units, have been deployed. SDRF teams have reached the site, while others are en route. Local villagers and police responded immediately after the incident was reported. The surviving boatman said the boat did not capsize but sank on its own; those who could swim reached safety.
BJP MLA Manoj Prajapati and DIG Banda Division Rajesh Yash confirmed that five children, aged between 5 and 15, and one woman are among the missing. The district administration remains on high alert, and a full report will be submitted to the Chief Minister. In a separate incident in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur district, a cruise boat capsized in Bargi Dam on April 30, killing 13 people.
Search operations in the Yamuna River will continue through the night, officials said. The current water conditions and low visibility are hampering efforts. The court will resume hearing on Tuesday.
