St Petrocs, the Cornwall charity that supports people who have lost their homes, took possession of the first phase of a new housing complex on August 4, 2026. The 16‑unit development sits on Duchy‑owned land in Nansledan, Newquay, and was furnished through a joint effort with major retailers.
CG Fry & Son built the two four‑bedroom houses and eight one‑bedroom apartments, all powered entirely by solar panels and ultra‑low‑carbon materials. On‑site counselling space allows residents to receive support while they work toward long‑term stability.
The project is part of Homewards, the Royal Foundation’s five‑year effort launched by Prince William to show that homelessness can be prevented and made brief. St Petrocs says the initiative will help people avoid the cycle of temporary shelters.
Sustainability is baked into every wall, with hemp‑filled panels and a low‑carbon cement mix, while furnishings from IKEA and other partners mean families can move in ready to live. The Homewards Furniture Project ensures that every apartment is fully equipped from day one.
Beyond the homes, Nansledan’s urban extension blends shops, green spaces and walkable streets, giving residents a sense of belonging in a growing community. The first residents will soon start the transition from crisis to independence, marking a new chapter for both the charity and the Duchy.
