A powerful improvised explosive device detonated on Monday in the Satwal-Naki area of the Krishna Ghati Sector, killing four Pakistan-based terrorists attempting to cross the Line of Control into Poonch district. The blast struck a forward village, shattering the silence along the border and forcing immediate security mobilization.
The four men, identified as Muhammad Ishtiaq, Muhammad Faizan, Muhammad Waqas, and Muhammad Asim, were all residents of Mandla, Madarpur, Tehsil Hajira in occupied Kashmir. Muhammad Faizan holds a senior position within Lashkar-e-Taiba, making this a significant disruption to the group's operational capabilities. The Satwal-Naki route is a well-known infiltration corridor, having been used repeatedly in recent years by hostile elements seeking to breach Indian territory.
Following the explosion, security forces triggered an alert across the sector and ramped up surveillance to assess the broader security picture. Officials noted that the exact sequence of events leading to the IED activation is still under investigation. In a similar incident in the past, six to seven members of Pakistan's Border Action Team (BAT) perished in a comparable manner in this specific region.
In a separate but related development, Indian Army personnel detected two rusted landmines near the border fence in the Basoni area of Mendhar sector on the same day. The devices, spotted during track construction at 8:25 am and 12:10 pm, were neutralized by Army experts in a controlled explosion. Heavy rainfall in the region can sometimes dislodge buried mines, posing unexpected risks to both military and civilian infrastructure.
