Telangana to Hold Statewide Disaster Response Drills on May 15, 18
Telangana will conduct a tabletop disaster response exercise on May 15, followed by statewide mock drills on May 18, involving nearly 60 departments and central agencies, State Revenue (Disaster Management) Secretary D. Harichandana said on May 7. The drills aim to strengthen inter-departmental coordination in responding to floods, industrial accidents and forest fires.
The May 18 exercises will include flood-related drills in 13 districts, industrial accident simulations in five districts and forest fire responses in four, Telangana Fire Services Director General Vikram Singh Mann said during a virtual coordination meeting with district officials and department heads. He directed all concerned departments to make necessary logistical and operational arrangements.
NDMA lead consultant Major General Sudhir Behl (Retired) outlined the roles of central and state agencies during emergencies in a presentation delivered virtually from New Delhi. Senior officials from NDRF, SDRF, CISF, CRPF, Army, Health, Forest, Industries and other departments attended the meeting.
The drills follow similar exercises in 2025, which officials said improved emergency response times and coordination. Final preparations are underway ahead of the scheduled exercises.
