Sangeetha Sornalingam, wife of actor Joseph Vijay, has filed for divorce at the Chengalpattu Family Welfare Court, citing infidelity and mental distress following allegations of the actor's extramarital relationship. The couple, married in 1998 in the UK and later in a Hindu ceremony in 1999, have two children and have been estranged since 2021, according to court documents. The next hearing is scheduled for June 15, 2026.
Sangeetha's absence, along with their children Jason Sanjay and Divya Saasha, from a recent public event featuring Vijay in Chennai sparked intense social media discussion. The event, attended by Vijay's parents, party supporters, and actress Trisha Krishnan, was mischaracterized by some online users as a swearing-in ceremony for Chief Minister, which did not occur. Vijay launched the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in 2024 but holds no elected office.
Trisha Krishnan, a frequent co-star of Vijay, has been the subject of dating rumours with the actor for years, though neither has confirmed a relationship. Sangeetha's divorce petition alleges that Vijay's continued public appearances and travel caused humiliation to her and their children. Authorities have not commented on the personal claims made in the petition.
The Chengalpattu court will hear the divorce case again on June 15, when both parties are expected to appear. No official statements have been issued by Vijay or his legal team regarding the personal allegations.
