The National Health Authority (NHA) concluded the Auto-Adjudication Hackathon Showcase 2026 in Bengaluru on Saturday, recognising innovators who developed AI-driven solutions for healthcare claims processing and fraud detection under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY). The event, held at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), was conducted in collaboration with the IndiaAI Mission and IISc Bengaluru to enhance speed, transparency and accuracy in claims adjudication.
The hackathon drew around 3,500 registrations, with over 600 participants attending masterclasses. In the 'Clinical Document Classification and Compliance to Standard Treatment Guidelines' category, Team Nirnaya, led by Vinay Babu Ulli, won first prize for an AI system that verifies treatment protocol compliance; teams from IIIT Gwalior and Vidal Health took second and third place. In 'Radiological Image-Based Condition Detection and Report Correlation', Team BiltIQ AI, led by Harish Kumar, won for its AI-supported radiology interpretation tool, followed by Team Kantaka Sodhana and Team Arnold Sachith and Smitha Rao.
In the 'Document Forgery/Deepfake Detection' category, Team Sopa Claims, led by Praveen Sridhar and Snehal Joshi, won for its AI system detecting forged medical documents. Team Forgensic from RGUKT-Nuzvid placed second, and Team Sushurutha Health AI came third. Winners received cash prizes of ₹5 lakh, ₹3 lakh and ₹2 lakh respectively.
NHA officials stated that selected solutions could be evaluated for integration into the AB PM-JAY ecosystem, which processes approximately 50,000 claims daily across more than 1,900 treatment packages. The agency will assess technical feasibility and scalability for potential pilot deployment in the coming months.
