A Russian drone that entered Romanian territorial waters last Sunday slammed the Turkish‑flagged cargo ship MV Royad Mamammadov in the Black Sea, sparking a fire that killed two crew members and wounded several others, including an Indian national.
The Indian Embassy in Romania posted on X that three Indians were aboard, one of whom sustained injuries. Ambassador Manoj Mohapatra confirmed the sailor’s good health while speaking with the chief physician at Constanta County Hospital.
Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said the attack is "completely unacceptable" and that India is intensifying diplomatic talks with Kyiv and Moscow to curb such incidents.
The incident adds to mounting tensions over Black Sea shipping, prompting the Indian government to threaten further action if Russian aggression persists. A recovery operation is underway, with Indian officials awaiting updates from Romanian authorities.
