Hyderabad has enforced extensive traffic restrictions and heightened security across the city on Sunday, May 9, 2026, in preparation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's public meeting at Parade Grounds, with disruptions expected between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m. The Malkajgiri police have advised commuters to avoid major roads surrounding Paradise, Patny, Begumpet, Sangeet Junction and adjoining arterial routes due to VVIP convoy movements and an anticipated crowd of approximately 100,000 people.
Multiple diversions are in effect: vehicles from Begumpet to Sangeet Junction must use the Paradise–Patny–Clock Tower route via CTO junction, while those travelling between Begumpet and Trimulgherry are directed to take the flyover via St John’s Rotary, Shenoy, AOC and KV Junction. Motorists from Balanagar to Secunderabad will be rerouted through Fathenagar, Ameerpet, Punjagutta and Begumpet, with an alternate path via Rasoolpura Junction, Minister Road and Ranigunj. Traffic from Tank Bund to Trimulgherry will proceed via Paradise, CTO, Tadbund, Diamond Point and Bowenpally Market.
Roadside parking is banned on all major stretches near Parade Grounds; illegally parked vehicles will be towed. Heavy vehicles, RTC buses and private coaches are advised to avoid the area. Authorities have designated 12 parking zones for attendees, with QR-code navigation systems in place. Buses from Nalgonda, Khammam, Warangal and Bhongir must park at Uppal Stadium and use Metro Rail to reach the venue. Police urge the public to use Metro Rail to minimize congestion.
More than 2,000 law and order personnel and 620 traffic police officers are deployed, alongside NSG and OCTOPUS teams. Entry to the venue is restricted to designated gates with strict screening; prohibited items include bags, electronics, food, water bottles, lighters and sharp objects. Bomb squads, sniffer dogs and electronic surveillance systems are operational at the site and parking areas. CCTV monitoring and real-time updates via social media and FM radio are being used to manage conditions.
The police control rooms will remain active throughout the event, with monitoring continuing until the conclusion of the Prime Minister’s meeting. Authorities will review traffic normalization procedures immediately after 9 p.m.
