C Joseph Vijay is set to become Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu after the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) extended unconditional support to his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led coalition, providing the critical numbers needed to form the government. In a letter to Governor Ravindra Narayana Ravi, VCK Legislature Party leader Vanni Arasu confirmed the party's two MLAs would support TVK, bringing the alliance's strength to 118 in the 234-member Assembly.
The support ends days of political uncertainty after the Assembly election resulted in a hung verdict, with TVK emerging as the single largest party by winning 108 seats. Prior to VCK's backing, the coalition had 116 confirmed MLAs, including support from Congress and Left parties. The Governor had declined to invite Vijay to form the government without formal proof of majority support.
VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan personally handed over the support letter to TVK leaders on Saturday afternoon, finalizing the coalition. Congress has reportedly been allocated two ministerial positions, while the Left parties supported the alliance without seeking cabinet roles. The Governor is expected to invite Vijay to form the government shortly, with the swearing-in ceremony likely within the coming days.
