A Turkish Airlines Airbus A330 caught fire on its right landing gear during landing at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on Monday, May 11, 2026. Airport emergency crews responded immediately, extinguished the fire, and evacuated all 277 passengers and crew without injury, according to airport officials.
The incident forced authorities to shut down the airport temporarily, halting all incoming and outgoing flights. The only operational runway was blocked as responders secured the aircraft and conducted safety checks.
Tribhuvan International Airport later resumed partial operations after the aircraft was moved from the runway. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
The airport is expected to return to full operational status by evening, and Turkish Airlines is coordinating with passengers for rebooking. The airline and Nepalese authorities will assess the aircraft's condition in the coming days.
