Suryansh Shedge, the 23-year-old allrounder from Mumbai, has credited conversations with senior players for improving his batting performance. During the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Rohit Sharma complimented Shedge on his explosive batting, saying 'Are Shedge, kya batting keli re. Ki Sagle Baghat Hoto Tikde Ekatra' (What terrific batting you did, we were all watching it!). This praise significantly boosted Shedge's confidence.
Shedge also spoke about a 'heart-to-heart' chat with Punjab Kings head coach Ricky Ponting, where Ponting motivated him to stay ready for his chance despite initial frustration at not getting a game. Ponting's advice to focus on preparation and stay in the present helped Shedge capitalize on his opportunity when it arrived.
After a disappointing IPL-2025, Shedge has shown improvement this season, scoring 3 not out, 57 off 29 balls against Gujarat Titans, and 25 off 17 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad in his first three matches. He attributes this improvement to becoming more instinctive at the crease rather than overthinking before each ball.
The young allrounder also enjoys a comfort factor with his PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer, with whom he discusses cricket and receives constructive criticism. A pre-season chat with Iyer during an intra-squad warm-up match also had a positive impact on Shedge, as Iyer advised him not to overthink his batting.
Shedge will look to continue his improved form as Punjab Kings play their next three home games starting from Monday. The team's upcoming matches will be crucial in determining their position in the league, and Shedge's performances will be closely watched.
