Malkajgiri Police Commissioner Conducts Undercover Safety Assessment
Malkajgiri Police Commissioner B. Sumathi conducted an undercover operation at midnight to assess women's safety in public spaces, following her assumption of the role. The exercise, carried out in Dilsukhnagar earlier this month, aimed to identify real-time risks faced by women during late hours.
During the operation, Sumathi encountered a group of young men who engaged in inappropriate behavior toward a woman. The group, later identified as students, was unaware of her identity until pre-deployed police teams intervened and detained them. No criminal cases were filed; instead, officers counseled the youths on legal consequences and emphasized respect for women.
Officials clarified the exercise was not a policing action but a ground-level assessment. Sumathi stated that certain areas show increased late-night activity involving substance abuse and minors, exacerbated by hostels and dense residential zones complicating oversight. She highlighted the need for targeted interventions in these zones.
The Commissioner noted that the findings may prompt localized awareness campaigns or patrols, though no immediate policy changes were announced. The operation underscores ongoing efforts to address safety concerns in urban neighborhoods.
