In Moga a tractor with a speaker box was used to hide 1 kg of heroin. Three men—Jarnail Singh, Balram Kumar alias Babblu and Heera Lal alias Heera—traveled from Mansa and waited at the New Grain Market to deliver the drug.
Senior officer Rajesh Kaushal told reporters the heroin was concealed inside the canopy’s speaker box. During questioning police said Harpal Singh alias Babbu, who has 22 criminal cases, ran the network through his father and associates.
The Amritsar raid saw five men arrested, and police said the suspects had been using a BMW fitted with fake registration plates to transport drugs and weapons. Commissioner Harmanbir Singh Gill said the consignments had flown in from Pakistan on drones and that the car was part of a larger smuggling ring.
Gill added that the accused were linked to gangsters Jordan and Keshav Shivala and that authorities are investigating three other names who were supposed to receive the weapons.
Investigators are tracing the wider supply chain, the origins of the consignments and the financial flows that fund the operation.
The police say the crackdown will curb the growing network that traffics drugs and arms across Punjab's borders.
