Prison authorities at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru have booked four undertrial inmates after seizing mobile phones, SIM cards, and other electronic devices during a surprise inspection on Friday between 1:45 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. The raid, conducted in the high-security wing, uncovered a security breach involving prohibited communication equipment inside the jail premises.
The inmates—identified as Mustafa (UT No. 4632/24), Abubal Rahman (UT No. 6131/25), Salman (UT No. 10148/18), and Fazal (UT No. 5416/22)—were found in possession of four mobile phones, seven SIM cards, one earbud, two earphones, a charger, and a charging connector. The prison superintendent-in-charge, B.R. Adhani, filed a complaint calling for action against those who facilitated the smuggling and use of the devices.
Police have registered a case under Section 42 of the Karnataka Prisons (Amendment) Act, 2022, which penalizes the unauthorized possession of electronic gadgets in prison. Investigators are examining the source of the contraband and potential involvement of staff or external associates.
The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities expected to submit findings and recommend disciplinary or criminal action against both inmates and any personnel found complicit.
