The Andhra Pradesh government has sanctioned a ₹31.73 crore drinking water project for Dharmavaram municipality in Sri Sathya Sai district under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme. The project, which was earlier pushed for by Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav, is intended to strengthen the municipal water supply system and provide safe and improved drinking water infrastructure.
The project includes the installation of new pumping systems, the construction of elevated service reservoirs, and the upgrade of the existing water treatment plant to a 10 MLD facility.
The works will also involve the laying of over 35 km of HDPE pipelines and 722 metres of DI K9 pipelines, as well as the installation of valve chambers, air valves, and sluice valves.
Officials said the upgraded water supply network would incorporate automation, GIS mapping, and hydraulic modelling to improve monitoring, operational efficiency, and future planning.
The project is expected to provide a major boost to the town's long-pending demand for safe and improved drinking water infrastructure, with the next steps involving the implementation and completion of the project, which will be overseen by state officials.
