K. Satchidanandan, poet and writer, has resigned as president of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi, a position he held for the last four years. He submitted his resignation letter via email to the Secretary of the Cultural Affairs department, citing the change in government as the reason for his resignation.
Mr. Satchidanandan stated that it is natural for people holding similar posts to vacate them following a change in government.
The resignation comes after Mr. Satchidanandan courted controversy during the Assembly election campaign by stating that the LDF government should not return to power.
The Kerala Sahitya Akademi will now need to find a new president, with Mr. Satchidanandan's term originally scheduled to end in May. The Cultural Affairs department is expected to initiate the process of finding a replacement in the coming days.
