TVK Chief Vijay Withdraws Full Security Protocol Amid Swearing-In Delay

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay on Wednesday requested the withdrawal of his full protocol security convoy following delays in his swearing-in as Chief Minister. The decision comes as the party, despite emerging as the single largest entity, continues to negotiate for the support required to reach a simple majority in the state assembly.
Police sources confirmed that the full convoy was removed at Vijay's specific request, though basic pilot security remains in place. Officials stated that such protocols are typically accorded to a chief minister-designate to facilitate movement, but the TVK leader chose to forgo the arrangement until the political deadlock is resolved.
The TVK currently requires 118 seats for a majority but remains 11 short of the mark. While the Congress has extended support with five MLAs, Vijay still needs the backing of at least six additional legislators. Negotiations are currently centered on the VCK, CPI, and CPM to secure the necessary threshold.
The Tamil Nadu Governor has reportedly directed Vijay to submit a formal list of 118 supporting MLAs before proceeding with government formation. The VCK and Left parties are expected to deliver a final decision on their support by May 8.
