Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Sunday rejected claims of instability in Karnataka's government, stating unequivocally that 'no chair in Karnataka is shaking' and that all positions remain strong, a direct response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent remarks suggesting otherwise. Shivakumar made the comments in Raichur district after attending a wedding ceremony.
Shivakumar expressed profound grief over the death of Minister D. Sudhakar, who died following a lung infection after knee surgery. He described Sudhakar as a dedicated leader committed to development, particularly in Chitradurga, and credited him with uniting local legislators for the Upper Bhadra Project and advancing the cooperative sector through leadership roles in district and apex banks.
He noted that Sudhakar had been hospitalized for about a month and that all possible medical efforts were made to save him. Shivakumar recalled Sudhakar's cross-community appeal despite belonging to the Jain community and acknowledged his personal loss, calling the minister a close associate who sacrificed for party unity, including relinquishing a portfolio for another minister.
Addressing concerns over drinking water scarcity, Shivakumar said his department prioritizes access to safe water and pledged to consult officials and take necessary measures. Several ministers and legislators were present during the event, including Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi and former Minister Amaregouda Bayyapur.
The government continues its administrative functions without disruption, and Shivakumar affirmed ongoing efforts to implement key projects and address public grievances.
