Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has begun a comprehensive audit of 300 city parks, a move ordered by Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu two weeks after a 17‑year‑old girl was gang‑raped in Aastha Kunj.
The audit examines guard deployment, patrol patterns, CCTV coverage, lighting, access control, fencing and boundary walls, with a focus on eliminating dark spots and pruning vegetation that obscures lights.
Night‑shift security has been beefed up with additional guards, bike patrols armed with torches and safety gear, and surprise inspections carried out by senior DDA officers in coordination with police beat officers.
The incident at Aastha Kunj, where three men posing as officers allegedly raped the teenager on September 21, prompted the Lieutenant Governor to convene a high‑level women‑safety review that directed police to intensify visible patrolling and to keep public access open.
The audit will conclude by Friday, after which the DDA plans to install new lighting, reinforce fencing, and expand CCTV coverage before a final inspection; Delhi Police will report progress to the Lieutenant Governor next month.
