Chief Justice Lisa Gill of the Andhra Pradesh High Court inaugurated a new court complex in Rajamahendravaram on Saturday, marking the addition of 10 judicial halls for the undivided East Godavari district. Built at a cost of ₹38 crore on the banks of the Godavari River, the complex includes a mediation centre, counselling room, record room, and accessibility features for persons with disabilities.
Gandham Sunitha, a judge from the erstwhile East Godavari district, confirmed that eight civil courts, a family court, and an SC&ST court will be relocated from their current premises near Pushkar Ghat to the new complex in the coming days. High Court Judge Bhattu Devanand, who also served as the district administrative judge, attended the event alongside Rajamahendravaram Bar Association president Ch.V. Prasad.
Justice Lisa Gill stated that the complex represented more than infrastructure, calling it a reflection of public trust and institutional commitment. She emphasized the integration of digital systems in judiciary operations, noting that digitalisation is now integral to court processes. While acknowledging growing interest in artificial intelligence among younger professionals, she cautioned that technology should serve the judiciary, not dictate its functioning.
Judges R. Raghunandan Rao, B.V.L.N. Chakravarthy, Sumathi Jagadam, and Nalyapathi Vijay attended the ceremony and delivered remarks. The shift of courts to the new facility is expected to be completed within weeks, pending logistical arrangements. The High Court administration will issue formal directives on the transfer timeline by next week.
