Abhijeet Dipke Detained at Delhi Airport Ahead of CJP Protest, Grandmother Dies

The CJP’s leaders were seized by Delhi Police upon landing from Mumbai, taken to an undisclosed location, and about 700 protestors were subsequently arrested—an unprecedented clampdown on the day the flight touched down. The protest, which the party says will target Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s handling of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, centers on alleged voter‑list manipulation and changes to Form 6 registration procedures that critics argue disenfranchise voters. Meanwhile, Dipke’s grandmother, Savitribai Shankar Dipke, aged 85, succumbed to age‑related ailments in Santuk Pimpri after a brief bout of illness, a death that has sent the family into a whirlwind of grief and logistics. In a video shared by the CJP, Dipke can be heard saying, “Even Indira Gandhi didn’t do this,” as police intercepted the group at the airport; the party claims the move was pre‑planned to prevent their leaders from reaching Jantar Mantar. With Dipke still in police custody, the planned demonstration at Jantar Mantar is on hold, and the family has departed for the village to conduct the last rites, leaving the protest’s future uncertain until the leader’s release.
