Delhi Capitals assistant coach Ian Bell acknowledged the team's inconsistent performances have undermined their IPL 2026 campaign, with their playoff chances now virtually eliminated ahead of their match against Punjab Kings in Dharamshala. Bell cited missed opportunities in tight matches as a critical factor, stating the side failed to capitalize on key moments against top-tier opposition.
"It's been inconsistent," Bell said. "You look at a few games where we have had our opportunities and, at this level, you have to take those moments. We probably haven't done that ruthlessly enough." He emphasized that maintaining consistency remains the team's biggest challenge, with three league games left.
Punjab Kings bowling coach James Hopes downplayed concern over his team's recent form, describing three consecutive losses as a minor setback in a grueling tournament. "It's a little bit of a hiccup," Hopes said, noting defeats to Rajasthan Royals, Gujarat Titans, and Sunrisers Hyderabad. He stressed that the team's focus is on refining execution in fielding, batting, and planning.
Hopes asserted that Punjab Kings' tournament "starts now," with the team still in contention for a playoff berth. "By doing all the little things right... those things add up across the season and help you come out on top," he said. Bell confirmed Delhi players remain committed, aiming to win their final three matches for pride, the franchise, and fans.
