Tamil Nadu Governor Demands Proof of 118‑MLA Support from TVK Chief

The Governor of Tamil Nadu, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, on Wednesday demanded{
} that Tamilagatha Vetri Katchi (TVK) chief C. Joseph Vijay produce letters proving that 118 members of the 234‑member Assembly support him. The demand comes after the Congress party, which won five seats in the recent election, announced it would back the TVK, while AIADMK has rejected reports of any support. The TVK secured 108 seats in the election; with Congress support it has 111 seats and requires backing from seven additional legislators to reach the required majority. The Governor, who also serves as Kerala’s governor, said he must be satisfied with the evidence before inviting the TVK to form a government. The Assembly was dissolved on May 5, 2026, and the Governor will review the proof before deciding whether the TVK can be sworn in. A final decision is expected in the coming days.
