A special court in Guwahati granted bail on Tuesday to Paresh Baishya and Nandeshwar Bora, two personal security officers of the late singer Zubeen Garg. The relief comes in Case No. 24 of 2026, where the prosecution alleged the pair dishonestly misappropriated the singer's movable property. Their bail petitions, registered as 1312 and 1313 of 2026, were heard over allegations of criminal conspiracy and breach of trust.
The defence challenged the prosecution's narrative, arguing that specific money transactions were wrongly linked to the alleged misuse of Garg's funds. The court accepted these arguments for the property-related case, granting bail. But the relief is partial. Baishya and Bora remain locked in Guwahati's jail because they are among seven accused against whom charges were recently framed in the case connected to Garg's death.
The other five accused in that separate matter are Shyamkanu Mahanta, Siddhartha Sharma, Amritprabha Mahanta, Sandipan Garg, and Shekharjyoti Goswami. Zubeen Garg died in Singapore on September 19, 2025, after reportedly entering the sea during a yacht outing. He was in the country to attend the North East India Festival. The overlap of these two legal battles means the security officers' release hinges on the outcome of the murder case proceedings, which are still ongoing.
The court's order explicitly states that their release from custody depends on whether they are required to stay in jail for any other case. Since the fast-track court has already framed charges in the death case, the two officers will continue to serve their time behind bars until the court addresses bail in that specific proceeding. No new hearing dates for the murder case were announced during Tuesday's session.
