Two multi-level car parking lots (MLCPs) at Putharikkandam maidan and at Medical College in Thiruvananthapuram have become fully operational, according to officials of the Smart City Thiruvananthapuram Limited. The parking lots, which were formally inaugurated before the local body elections, have a capacity of 200 cars each.
The MLCPs were constructed at a cost of around ₹16 crore and ₹20 crore, respectively, and will charge ₹30 for one hour parking and ₹150 for 24 hours.
The opening of the MLCPs is expected to provide relief to those frequenting East Fort and Thampanoor as well as the Medical College junction area, where parking spots are hard to find on most days.
The Smart City Thiruvananthapuram Limited will be putting up display boards near the Central Railway Station for the MLCP at Putharikkandam to inform commuters about the parking facility. The Corporation will monitor the usage and revenue generated from the MLCPs and plan for future expansion of parking facilities in the city.
The immediate next step is for the Smart City Thiruvananthapuram Limited to review the operational efficiency of the MLCPs and make necessary adjustments to ensure smooth functioning.
