The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has suspended its spokesperson Riju Dutta for six years, effective immediately, for alleged violations of party discipline and non-compliance with summons issued by its disciplinary committee. According to the suspension order, Dutta failed to submit an explanation within the stipulated period and did not attend a hearing scheduled by the disciplinary committee.
The suspension order noted that Dutta's conduct was found to be in violation of party discipline and detrimental to its unity and public image. Dutta, however, claims that he filed his reply within the stipulated time and has vowed to return to the party, stating 'I WILL BE BACK' in a social media post.
The suspension comes after Dutta made critical remarks against Suvendu Adhikari in a viral video, which he later claimed were made under pressure. The TMC disciplinary committee had issued a show-cause notice to Dutta over his public statements against the party and its leadership.
The party has stated that during the suspension period, Dutta will not be allowed to represent himself as an office bearer, spokesperson, representative, or authorized member of the party in any manner. The immediate next steps for Dutta and the party are unclear, but the suspension is expected to have significant implications for the party's internal dynamics and public image.
