The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical team has started reaching out to players in contention for the one-off Test against Afghanistan, asking them to gradually increase their workload. The team, led by captain Shubman Gill, is set to take the field in Mullanpur from June 6.
The BCCI has been monitoring player workload during the IPL and is satisfied with what it has seen so far, with no red flags raised regarding the batting group.
The bowling group, however, could see changes as the thinktank aims to avoid burning out premium quicks under the unforgiving June sun. Jasprit Bumrah is unlikely to take the field, and a late call is expected on players like Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna.
The selectors may be tempted to try fresh faces, especially in the bowling department, ahead of the Sri Lanka Test series. The focus will then shift to the shorter formats, with an ODI series against Afghanistan and subsequent tours of Ireland and England. The court will not resume hearing as this is a sports news article, instead, the BCCI will assemble next to discuss the team composition for the upcoming tours.
