The INDIA bloc has locked in its protest calendar. On October 7, representatives from Congress, CPI, CPI(M), RJD, NCP, and RSP will converge outside the Election Commission office in Delhi. They are not just marching for visibility; they are demanding the immediate repeal of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The coordination is precise. During a Sunday meeting, Delhi Congress general secretary Anil Bhardwaj laid out the strategy alongside CPI secretary Dinesh C Varshanay and CPI(M) general secretary Anurag Saxena. RJD’s Naval Kishore also attended, signaling a rare unity on electoral integrity. Bhardwaj framed the SIR process as a direct threat to the constitutional right to vote. "The voter list is the foundation of democracy," he stated. "If any process is adopted that could potentially remove voters' names or impact their rights, the INDIA Alliance will not accept it at any cost."
This Delhi rally is the crescendo of a week-long offensive. Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge announced a series of 'Save Democracy' marches at the district level starting October 2. The plan includes an Opposition MP march to the ECI headquarters. The bloc argues the current SIR mechanism lacks transparency and risks disqualifying legitimate voters under the guise of data cleaning.
The pressure on the Election Commission is mounting. With the date set for October 7, the focus shifts to how CEC Gyanesh Kumar reacts to the demand for his ouster. The INDIA parties insist the revision must align strictly with constitutional provisions, warning that any delay in addressing their grievances will escalate the agitation further.
