Gill’s fifth ICC Player of the Month crown comes after a twin‑thunderbolt series against the West Indies, while Shafali Verma collected a second monthly accolade from India’s Asian Cup and Games heroics.
Gill came to the fore with a 110 in Thiruvananthapuram, then smashed 223 off 133 deliveries – the fastest double century in ODI history – driving India to a 406 chase.
Shafali, meanwhile, racked up 360 runs at 184.61 SR across the Asia Cup, picked up six wickets, and capped it with an unbeaten 100 against Bangladesh before scoring 48 in the final.
Gill said, “It feels fantastic to win my fifth ICC Player of the Month award… The pace of ODI cricket has gone up significantly…” Shafali added, “Winning this award makes our Asia Cup and Games victories even more special.”
This double sweep marks the third time India has taken both monthly awards in the same month, a rarity that underscores the board’s dominance and sets the stage for the ICC Women’s Champions Trophy in February.
