India Conducts Maiden Flight-Trial of Indigenous Glide Weapon System TARA

India has successfully conducted the maiden flight-trial of its indigenously developed Tactical Advanced Range Augmentation (TARA) glide weapon system off the coast of Odisha on Thursday, May 7, 2026. The Defence Ministry stated that the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Air Force (IAF) collaborated on the project.
The TARA system is designed to convert unguided warheads into precision guided weapons, enhancing the lethality and accuracy of low-cost weapons to neutralise ground-based targets. According to the Ministry, the system was developed by Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad, along with other DRDO laboratories.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO, the IAF, and industry partners on the successful trial, describing it as a significant development in advancing India's indigenous defence capabilities.
The successful trial of the TARA system is expected to bolster India's defence arsenal, with the Defence Ministry likely to announce further testing and deployment plans in the coming days. The court or relevant authorities are not involved in this case, but the Defence Ministry will likely provide updates on the project's progress.
