Royal Challengers Bengaluru head coach Andy Flower has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during RCB's dramatic two-wicket win over Mumbai Indians on Sunday. The offence, classified as Level 1 under Article 2.3, involved the use of audible obscenity directed at the fourth umpire during a contentious boundary decision in the 17.2 over of the chase.
The incident occurred when Krunal Pandya hit a delivery from AM Ghazanfar to the deep boundary, prompting an acrobatic relay attempt by Naman Dhir and Tilak Varma. Dhir touched the ball while staying inside the ropes, but Tilak failed to complete the catch and initially signaled a six, creating confusion. Replays confirmed no boundary was scored, and the ball was ruled a dot after Krunal did not attempt a run.
Flower reacted angrily to the on-field confusion and exchanged words with the fourth umpire, leading to the formal charge. The IPL confirmed Flower admitted the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by match referee Amit Sharma. The code defines the violation as the use of offensive or obscene language audible to spectators or the broadcast audience.
RCB went on to win the match off the final ball, moving to the top of the IPL 2026 points table and boosting their chances of a top-two finish. Mumbai Indians, by contrast, were eliminated from playoff contention following the loss, becoming the second team this season to miss the postseason.
The IPL disciplinary process will continue to monitor conduct breaches, while RCB and MI prepare for their next fixtures in the ongoing tournament.
