Joseph Vijay was sworn in as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 10, 2026, at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, following his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam's (TVK) victory in the 2026 state assembly elections. Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi administered the oaths of office and secrecy to Vijay and nine cabinet ministers in a ceremony attended by family members and public figures, including actor Trisha Krishnan. The TVK secured 108 seats in its electoral debut, marking a significant political shift in the state.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Vijay's parents, filmmaker SA Chandrasekhar and Shobha Chandrasekhar, who were seated in the front row. The TVK has indicated it will release its governance agenda in the coming week. The new Chief Minister is expected to convene his first cabinet meeting on May 12, 2026.
