The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning Tuesday, Oct 27, that Cyclone Arnab would bring isolated to heavy rainfall across Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab from Oct 28 to Nov 1, 2026.
Arnab is classified as a "very severe cyclonic storm", with maximum sustained winds of 125‑135 km/h, gusting to 150 km/h by the afternoon of 28 October, and a western disturbance already forming over northwest Uttar Pradesh.
The storm’s outer bands, together with the western disturbance, will lower daytime temperatures to a range of 29‑31°C, with lows dropping to 15‑17°C, and trigger a drop in AQI to safe levels across the national capital.
Amid the forecast, a 32‑year‑old shopkeeper in Gurgaon said he is preparing to close his stall early, as the expected showers could disrupt Karwa Chauth evening rituals, which many families in the area observe with fasting and prayers.
Delhi’s municipal authorities have released a weather advisory urging residents to stay indoors during peak rainfall and to check local news for updates, while the National Disaster Management Authority has activated its contingency plan for heavy rains.
