Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray, leaders of Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), marched from Metro Cinema to BMC headquarters on Sunday, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
The Special Intensive Revision, conducted in 2025‑26, has been criticised by opposition parties for adding thousands of names that may not meet eligibility criteria, sparking fears of electoral fraud.
During the march, Raj Thackeray shouted at the CEC, saying, "Gyanesh kaka, dale vote pa daka," accusing him of stealing votes.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Sharad Pawar's NCP leader Ajit Pawar joined the march, voicing concerns about the Election Commission’s transparency.
Organizers barred party flags, instructing participants to display only the national tricolour, a symbolic move to emphasize unity against alleged malpractice. The protest is expected to pressure the Election Commission to hold a press conference tomorrow to address the grievances.
The "Jail Bharo Andolan" held on Tuesday at Shivaji Park had also called for the CEC's resignation, signalling a growing trend of civil agitation against the commission.
