Election Commission today clarified that notices issued to prominent Delhi voters, including Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, do not automatically imply removal from the electoral roll.
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, launched on 15 August 2026, flags discrepancies in enumeration forms and asks voters to submit additional documents. High‑profile names such as former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and BJP leaders L K Advani have also received notices. The Commission says the process applies equally to all electors, regardless of status.
A notice is a request for verification, not a final decision. Once the required paperwork is turned in, the Electoral Registration Officer will review and either confirm or correct the entry.
The EC has set a deadline of 29 October 2026 for disposing of all notices, after which the final roll will be published on 4 November 2026.
For ordinary voters, the exercise underscores the need for accurate records. Ramesh Kumar, a 38‑year‑old resident of West Delhi, had his name flagged due to a typographical error. After submitting his birth certificate, the Commission reinstated his name and confirmed his eligibility to vote.
Affected electors are urged to submit documents promptly, and the next milestone will be the release of the final roll next week.
