Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday asked citizens to help curb rising prices by conserving fuel and foreign exchange amid global supply chain disruptions caused by Middle East hostilities. Speaking in Hyderabad, he urged the public to use public transport, adopt work-from-home where possible, and avoid non-essential gold purchases and overseas weddings.
Modi emphasized that patriotism now includes responsible living, such as carpooling, using metro and rail networks, and shifting to electric vehicles. He also encouraged businesses and government offices to revive pandemic-era practices like virtual meetings and online conferences to reduce travel and energy consumption.
The prime minister stressed collective action to shield India from global economic shocks, including fluctuating oil prices and logistical challenges. Officials said the appeal aims to build public consensus for short-term behavioral adjustments without new regulatory mandates. The government will continue monitoring inflation and external sector indicators for further action.
