Telangana Aims to Boost Revenues by ₹36,000 Crore Annually
The Telangana government plans to increase state revenues by ₹36,000 crore annually without raising taxes, according to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. The plan involves plugging leakages and implementing strict tax compliance measures, which have already shown positive results in GST collections and other departments.
The state has seen an increase in GST collections by ₹2,500 crore within four months, with ₹500 crore each in January, February, and March, and ₹1,000 crore in April, without increasing taxes.
The mining sector has also shown improvement, with sand revenues increasing from ₹600 crore annually to over ₹1,100 crore this year, due to tighter monitoring and reforms. The excise department and Stamps and Registration Department have also registered strong growth.
The Chief Minister has stated that with similar efforts across departments, the state could generate an additional ₹3,000 crore per month, translating to nearly ₹36,000 crore annually, which could be used to resolve employee issues and allocate funds for their welfare. The government will likely focus on implementing these measures in the coming months to achieve the revenue target.
