Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday attacked the Congress party, accusing it of betraying the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu for political power. Addressing a gathering in Bengaluru, PM Modi described the Congress' 'politics of betrayal' and accused it of piggybacking on parties for political relevance.
PM Modi referred to the Congress' alliance with the DMK, saying it was betrayed when the political winds shifted. He also criticized the power tussle in Karnataka, saying the Congress government lacked a governance agenda and was driven by a lust for power.
The comments come as the new Tamil Nadu government, led by TVK chief Vijay, was sworn in on Sunday with the support of Congress and other parties.
The immediate outlook is that the Congress party is likely to respond to PM Modi's criticism, while the new Tamil Nadu government will focus on establishing its governance agenda. The power tussle in Karnataka is also expected to continue, with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy D K Shivakumar vying for control.
