Jio Platforms' IPO has exploded into the market with ₹70,000 crore in bids, a 10‑fold subscription multiple that dwarfs the ₹7,000 crore price range set by the regulator. The surge came amid a week of volatility that saw the Nifty claw back 140 points in the final 30 minutes to finish at 22,825, holding above the 22,800 support that could have been breached earlier.
Institutions grabbed the lion's share of the demand, with QIBs driving the 10× multiple; retail units likewise reached near‑full capacity, underscoring appetite across the spectrum. According to Vatsal Bhuva of LKP Securities, the institutional tilt was a sign that the company’s tech‑heavy valuation is being taken seriously.
The four IPOs that closed on Monday will see refunds totalling ₹1.76 lakh crore, with ₹1.2 lakh crore coming from QIBs and ₹15,000 crore from retail, injecting liquidity back into the market on Thursday. This inflow could cushion the market as the weekly expiry of Sensex contracts looms.
Nifty’s advance‑decline ratio remained in the red, with 420 stocks in the index ending in the red; the broader market still feels pressure from the net decline in mid‑cap and small‑cap segments. The 22,800 level remains a critical support, while a slide to 22,300 could trigger a deeper pullback.
Analysts at HDFC Securities, LKP, and SAMCO note that 55,000 is a pivot for the Nifty Bank index; the next support sits at 54,700 and resistance at 55,500. Their stance is cautious ahead of the weekly expiry and the Jio pricing.
The next week will also bring earnings from Colgate‑Palmolive, HPCL, and Swiggy, offering additional catalysts to watch as the market digests the Jio pricing and the sector’s outlook.
