The Kansas City Current leapt to $325 million, an 18 % rise from last year’s $275 million, according to Forbes’ latest NWSL valuations.
Behind the numbers is a story of stability and star power. Patrick Mahomes, now one of the first active NFL players to own an NWSL club, and his wife Brittany, a former Icelandic striker, brought the franchise into Kansas City with a vision that goes beyond the pitch.
But the valuation jump isn’t just glamour. The club’s revenue hit roughly $38 million, matching Angel City’s, and Forbes projects a turn‑to‑profit sooner than expected. Still, 12 of 30 MLB teams and 16 of 29 MLS teams posted negative operating income in 2025, so the NWSL’s salary‑cap structure and lack of relegation give investors a safety net.
The league as a whole is on a growth trajectory too. Average NWSL club value rose 49 % last year, while Angel City leapt 21 % and the Spirit surged 65 %. With Columbus paying $205 million for expansion in 2028, the Current’s $325 million place keeps the Mahomes family firmly in the conversation for the top spot.
Next up, the Current will face the reigning Shield holders in a high‑stakes showdown that could cement their position at the summit.
