Shaktikanta Das, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, told a packed audience in Delhi on the 5th Kautilya Economic Conclave 2026 that India can reach Viksit Bharat by 2047. He pointed to a 7.8% rise in real GDP in the first quarter and an average 7.9% growth from fiscal 2022 to 2026, arguing that the country’s resilience stems from solid governance and macro‑economic stability.
Das cautioned that global uncertainty—especially wars and volatile energy prices—could stifle growth. He noted that while many advanced economies struggle with high public debt, India’s prudent external‑sector management has kept macro‑stability intact.
To sustain the momentum, he highlighted clean‑energy transition, climate leadership, AI, and strategic Atmanirbharta as pillars of the Viksit Bharat vision. The conclave’s theme, 'Resilience in an Age of Flux,' brought together over 180 policymakers, economists, and more than 80 international delegates from 30 countries.
The event closed with a pledge to intensify investment in long‑term productive capacity, a concrete step to translate the 7.9% growth into a development roadmap. The government will draft a detailed plan to operationalise these initiatives in the coming months.
