Donald Trump told Newsmax that Washington is negotiating with Moscow and Beijing to denuclearise the world’s largest arsenals.
The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute reports Russia holds the largest stockpile of nuclear warheads, followed by the United States and China, with the U.S. deploying more warheads than Russia.
Trump added that he expects China to catch up with U.S. nuclear capabilities within five years, a claim that could reshape regional security dynamics.
The remarks come after the New START treaty, signed in 2010 and extended once by President Joe Biden and President Vladimir Putin, expired earlier this year.
Any new limits on deployed warheads will require an executive decision to voluntarily extend the treaty, meaning the next step will be a presidential call.
The White House has not yet confirmed the scope of the talks, and international partners await further details.
