Boy in Odisha Trapped in Stone Crevice for 8 Hours Amid Snake Threat

Shiba Pradhan, a minor from Nayagarh district in Odisha, was rescued after his head became trapped in a stone crevice during a honey‑collecting trip in Kanipada forest.
The incident occurred on Wednesday when Pradhan, accompanied by his uncle, reached a hive inside a large stone fissure; his head jammed as he tried to retrieve honey deeper in the crevice.
The uncle called villagers and family members, then summoned firefighters. Two fire personnel teams from Odagaon and Nayagarh, joined by local police, arrived on scene. A venomous snake was found near the crevice, complicating the rescue.
Fire crews used equipment to free Pradhan after an eight‑hour operation and handed him to family following a primary health check.
The boy is expected to recover fully; authorities will monitor his health and review safety protocols for forest activities.
